The year Brynn was Hilda, we started a Halloween tradition at our house with her cousins a few years ago and it’s been so fun. In the meantime, our family will be re-watching ( and re-re-watching) old episodes… We are all so happy to hear that Hilda has been confirmed for a Season 2, but unfortunately we will have to wait until sometime in 2020 🙁 If you don’t have the patience to sew Twig yourself, here is an absolutely ADORABLE handmade Twig from Amazon Handmade. It was a labor of love, but she is still in love with Twig.

I found a free pattern online, increased the size so it was closer to Twig’s actual size, and sewed until I was choking on white fuzzy fabric floating around my craft room 😉 Being the DIYer that I am, and even though I had never done it before, I decided I could make Brynn a stuffed Twig. If you can’t find one at your local stores, here is a baby blue wig for kids that is already cut and ready to go on Amazon! There’s not much you can do about a cheap $8 synthetic wig, but I thought it looked adorable on Brynn 🙂 With my hair stylist skills, I gave it a little haircut so it could fit Brynn better. I found a cheap wig at Walmart for $7.99, but it was SUPER long. You can’t be Hilda without her iconic baby blue hair. You could also order this long sleeve red shirt off Amazon.

I paid about $2 for the shirt Brynn’s wearing, which is actually thicker like a sweater. I struck gold again at the thrift store and found a red long sleeve shirt in the boy’s section during a 50% off kids sale. If you live in a warmer climate, black tights would also be a great option. These also helped keep her nice and warm on a typical chilly Minnesota Halloween night! Luckily, as most girls, Brynn already had quite the collection of black leggings. I really think DIY is the way to go with this piece. I also did some searching on Amazon and was not able to find a skirt in the right shade of blue. And because I knew fabric paint existed, I picked some up in a turquoise color.

I could not find a blue skirt in Brynn’s size, or a blue skirt in any size for that matter, at the thrift store. If you’re not willing to sacrifice the hot glue burns, you can just order this pair of red boots like these off Amazon. After a few creative cuts and numerous finger burns from the hot glue, we had Hilda’s red boots. When I was searching for yellow fleece to make the scarf, I also found a remnant piece of red fleece that was the perfect size to cover 2 boots. So I looked for a pair of winter boots in Brynn’s size from the thrift store that I wouldn’t care about hot gluing fabric to. I knew finding a pair of red boots in Brynn’s size would be like finding a needle in a haystack. You could also order this yellow scarf off Amazon for $6.99. Pretty sure this scarf cost me about 2 bucks total. But luckily, a remnant piece of yellow fleece from JoAnn’s with some creative cutting ended up looking just like a scarf. I never ended up finding a yellow scarf at the thrift store. You can also get a kid’s black beret pretty cheap from Amazon. Lucky me, we found one immediately during our thrift trip to complete Brynn’s Halloween costume. After all, I see them ALL THE TIME when I’m out thrifting. We (I) was determined to find a black beret at a thrift store. Hilda has quite a few defining accessories that you just can’t skip: If your kiddo is also thinking about being Hilda for Halloween this year, here is how you can follow in my footsteps to put together your own Hilda costume.īecause when your kid wants to dress up like an obscure character, you probably have no other choice than to DIY 😉 Hilda’s Accessories Whatever I couldn’t thrift, I would make. My goal, as it is for most of Brynn’s Halloween costumes, was to thrift the majority of the pieces. Our family has been obsessed with Hilda since it’s release in September 2018, so when Brynn decided ( after a few “subtle” hints from Mom & Dad) that’s who she wanted to be for Halloween we were both over the moon excited! You can easily put together your own Hilda (from the Netflix series) costume for your kids.
